OUR CHILDREN
Tumaini Home is a small and safe organization doing everything we can in our work for the children.
Children and teenagers live in our home. They all have different stories, but together we are one family.
Our home is built to taylor different forms of handicaps and illnesses, and is filled with people doing their best to offer assistance to those who need it.
In addition of being a children's home, we are a day care centre for children with mental handicaps, we support children living at home with education, we help children and teenagers seek medical help and we create places of employment.
A stable economy for the organization means a safe and stable life for our children and teenagers. We welcome all donations, small and large.
Most of our children have different handicaps, mostly physical, some mental. Others have different illnesses or genetic deficiency, and some are completely healthy but have a difficult background.
Tumaini Home strives to be a safe home, a shool and a place of employment for people who need ergonomic adaptaion, personal assitance and/or medical attention.
It is also a goal for us to contribute so that children from bakcgrounds with limited financial means can access quality education, laying the foundation for their opportinuty to create sustanable futures for themselves.
“I came to Tanzania in 1982, and worked in a camp for lepers for many years. Afterwards I was a teacher in a secondary school and worked for South-African refugees, ANC, this also in Tanzania.
Since 2004 , together with Gervas Tatah Mlola, a former teacher colleague of mine, we have built Tumaini Home. Little by little.
I am educated as a teacher in mechanical subjects and as a special teacher for children and youth with special needs. For most of my working career in Norway I worked as a special- and social teacher at Orstad school in Klepp, Norway. I also worked as a farmer for eight years.”
